Text Box: UMMAH WAHIDAH United Community By Azzaam Sami’ Verily, this community of yours is a single community, and I am your Lord and Cherisher; therefore serve Me (and no other). Holy Qur’an. Allah (G-d) tells us in the Qur’an that the society of humanity is one. One single Community, one Community of homosapiens, human beings. Within the Global Community there are many individual communities. Each of them having its distinctive characteristic in terms of language, customs, cultural traditions etc. Here in the Qur’an, the Book of Allah (G-d), humanity is given the opportunity, or even placed under obligation, to establish a community that provides the essential morals and principles for the life that Allah (G-d) wants for all of mankind. The whole Community should function in a way that the individuality of each community is not lost or pressured to change its distinct character. Their distinctive characteristics and customs should remain intact, wherein the Global Community can establish a united diversified culture. One working together, sharing each others differences, learning from each others experiences, multiplying and diversifying, their differences for the benefit of the whole humanity. A single culture which establishes the life that Allah (G-d), wants for all people, and who will promote that life and protect what it has established. To establish this community life there has to be common bond. A purpose joining all communities together: One G-d, One Message, One Humanity, the Qur’an the Book of Allah, and the demonstrated practice of that Book through the life of Prophet Mohammed, prayers and peace be upon him, should be used to perfect that life and maintain its existence. There is a need to establish a model community, a community full of achievements striving to maintain a progressive state of life, and working together with other ethnic groups, who have the same determination to assist one another, in having a positive effect on the lives of its members. To induce positive results with the intentions of making an effective change in society. Allah (G-d) says to the believers in the Qur’an, “You are the best community evolved for mankind. Enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong, and believing in Allah.” This message is an incentive and obligation for those who believe to be positive examples. Positive examples of those submitting to the will of Allah (G-d), obeying His commands, and doing what is right. It is a message for the believing communities to join together, form alliances and develop a structured system that will promote the best and insure that good prevails. It is a message to the believing communities to unite and fight against the wrongs which try to dominate our society. It is also a message for all people with right minded thinking and moral consciousness. The time to establish an intelligentsia is now. There should be a group of intelligent thinkers from each community that will develop leadership for the community to follow. Leadership that will obey the Qur’an, the Book of Allah, and obey the life giving teachings of His messenger Prophet Mohammed, (ppbuh). Allah (G-d) says in the Qur’an “I will create a vicegerent (ruler) on earth,” that is to say, to those who will take the initial steps to be foregoing in their independent reasoning, and to be responsible for their actions in paving a way for progress and productivity. The believers are to be the leaders in society advancing what is right and impeding that which is wrong. When these believers are in great numbers there should be an established leadership (shura) amongst them. This position should be given to the ones who occupy the highest place of honor in the community. Prophet Mohammed, (ppbuh) said “The man who knows most of the Book of Allah shall act as Imam (leader) of a people.” The Imam is the one in front. The Prophet also said, “When there are three, one should stand in front.” There has to be an established leadership (shura) for the community to follow. Then the group of intelligent professionals should support that leadership (shura) and follow the advice and counseling of the leadership (shura) in hopes of implementing it for the benefit of the whole Community. There is a moral and religious obligation on the believers to establish the human family as one, and to seek continuity between the relationships within the various individual communities, and outside of each other’s immediate society as well; in order to become the Ummah Wahidah (United Community). We should work together to obliterate the ills, prejudices, and misconceptions of one another, and cooperate to establish humanity as one. What ever fears that there may be, disregard them and fear Allah (G-d), come together and put dignity into society by producing viable communities and establishing a “United Community” life. Surely Allah (G-d) is the Sustainer of all.
