TAUHEED
Oneness of Creation
By Imam Salim MuMin
The word "Tauheed" does not appear in the Qur'an. Sure "Ahad" and "Waahid"appear in the Qur'an.
Many people say Tauheed is the Oneness of Allah. Yes and no. Yes: the creation
is the creation of Allah. No: Allah is not creation.
Tauheed is not addressing Allah Himself. It is addressing creation. Allah is not
Tauheed. Tauheed is an "internal noun" or "essential noun" (masdar) of the
second form. That is, Tauheed suggests an Intensifying causation. Allah is not
an intensifying causation that becomes one. That is to say Allah is not the sum
of many parts that is seen as One.
Tauheed is the sum total of many parts that become one due to an intensifying
cause. This we find in creation but not in Allah. So, i referenced it to a three
day journey. This journey is not on land but in the mind or spirituality of man.
It begins with the fig that has the many seeds of brainstorming, thougts, burts
of mental energies, that are cause to become one universal concept, idea,
thought -- the Olive with its one seed "Tauheed."
The many sciences are bought together in one whole system of matter, this is the
Tauheed. We arrive at the principle of Tauheed by studying matter thus, we are
led to understand that Allah is One, but there is no "one" like His "one" that
is, he is not the sum total of many parts. He is not the affect of a cause. He
is not causation but he created the cause and the affect. I know some will say
he is the first cause but yes and no. But, that is another discussion.
Within the diversity there is unity. But Allah it not unity. His one is not the
oneness of unity, again the sum total of many parts. Al-Ikhlas does not mean
"Unity." It means "Conclusion." It is the conclusion concerning the conception
of Allah. And that is He is One, Eternal, not the fater and not the son. In
religion man has made the mistake of calling Allah "Father" and calling Him
"Son." He is One but His One is not like our One. His One is not like the
Oneness we find in creation. If this is not clear let me know. Therefor Allah is
not "Tauheed," it is not in the Qur'an.
